A tool is one operation your AI assistant can call, such as “search logic blocks” or “create a schedule”. You don’t call tools yourself: you describe what you want, and the assistant chooses the tools, calls them one at a time and reads each result before deciding the next step. Knowing the catalog helps you ask for things the assistant can actually do, and tells you which requests change your environment.
Logic Foundry has 91 tools in 14 groups. Most artifact groups follow the same pattern:

- Paging.
list_… tools return results a page at a time. A good assistant keeps paging until it finds what it needs; if it says something doesn’t exist, ask it to check every page or to search by name instead.
- Full replacement on update.
update_… tools replace an artifact’s definition. The assistant should read the current definition first and change only what you asked.
- Managed solutions. Create and update tools refuse to change artifacts in a project whose solution is managed in this environment.
- Permissions. Every tool runs as you. If you can’t read or change something in Dataverse, neither can the assistant.
