Installation
Install the Logic Fabric solutions in the right order, assign security roles and check that everything works.
Logic Fabric is delivered as a set of Dataverse solutions that you import into each environment where you design or run logic. This page lists the solutions, the order to install them in, the security roles they add and the checks to run afterwards. The AI products and the Logic Fabric CLI are installed separately; links are at the end of the page.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- You need an account that can import solutions in the target environment, typically a System Administrator.
- Get the installation packages from Flowon. Each solution is supplied for each edition: one package for Logic Fabric for Dataverse and one for Logic Fabric for Dynamics 365 CE on-premises. Always import the package built for your edition. See Editions.
- Decide which products you need in this environment. Logic Fabric Base is always required; everything else depends on the products you use.
Solutions and install order
Section titled “Solutions and install order”Install the solutions in the order shown. Each solution requires the ones listed in its Requires column.
Logic Composer
Section titled “Logic Composer”| Order | Solution | What it adds | Requires |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Logic Fabric Base | Projects and the foundation every Logic Fabric solution depends on | — |
| 2 | Logic Fabric Logic Composer | The Logic Fabric Logic Composer app, logic blocks, flows, recipes, events, schedules, settings, the Run dialog and the Flowon Customizer security role | Logic Fabric Base |
| 3 | Logic Fabric Logic Composer Tools | The editors for logic blocks, logic flows, recipes, service connections, configuration values, localized resources, event definitions and event handlers | Logic Fabric Base, Logic Fabric Logic Composer |
Process Orchestrator
Section titled “Process Orchestrator”| Order | Solution | What it adds | Requires |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | Logic Fabric Process Orchestrator | Business processes, instances, stage records, tracing, the escalation monitor and the Process Designer security role | Logic Fabric Base, Logic Fabric Logic Composer |
| 5 | Logic Fabric Process Orchestrator Tools | The Process Designer commands and the version commands (Publish, Publish & Activate, Activate) | Logic Fabric Base, Logic Fabric Logic Composer, Logic Fabric Process Orchestrator |
Logic API
Section titled “Logic API”| Order | Solution | What it adds | Requires |
|---|---|---|---|
| After Base | Logic Fabric API Builder | API definitions and their versions | Logic Fabric Base |
| Next | Logic Fabric API Builder Tools | API Studio, where you design, validate and publish APIs | Logic Fabric Base, Logic Fabric API Builder |
Logic API does not need Logic Composer, so you can install it on top of Logic Fabric Base alone. Hosting the API for callers is covered in Logic API installation.
Import the solutions
Section titled “Import the solutions”-
Sign in to the target environment with an account that can import solutions.
-
Import Logic Fabric Base using the standard Dataverse solution import.
Dataverse (cloud)Applies to the other edition
In Power Apps, select the environment, go to Solutions, choose Import solution and select the package.
Dynamics 365 CE on-premisesApplies to the other edition
In Dynamics 365, go to Settings > Solutions, choose Import and select the package.
-
Wait for the import to finish, then import the next solution in the order above. Repeat until every solution you need is installed.
-
Assign the security roles described below to the people who design logic.
-
Run the post-installation checks.
Saving designs needs the Tools solutions
Section titled “Saving designs needs the Tools solutions”The Tools solutions contain the editors and design commands. Without them, environments can hold and run logic but you cannot design it:
- Creating or changing logic blocks, logic flows, recipes, event definitions and event handlers is refused when Logic Fabric Logic Composer Tools is not installed. The message reads “Cannot perform operation because
Flowon Logic Toolssolution is not installed.”, usingFlowon Logic Toolsas the name of that solution. - The Process Designer and the version commands for business processes come with Logic Fabric Process Orchestrator Tools.
- API Studio comes with Logic Fabric API Builder Tools.
Install the Tools solutions in every environment where people design. Environments where people only run logic, such as test and production, do not need the Tools solutions: logic runs without them, and the CLI import deploys projects without them. Without Logic Composer Tools, the Run button on logic flows and the editors are not available there.
Security roles
Section titled “Security roles”| Role | Comes with | Assign it to |
|---|---|---|
| Flowon Customizer | Logic Fabric Logic Composer | People who design logic blocks, flows, recipes, events, schedules and settings |
| Process Designer | Logic Fabric Process Orchestrator | People who design business processes. It also lets them view and adjust the escalation monitor. |
Assign roles with the standard Dataverse security tools. To control who can run a particular block, flow or process, use its preconditions.
Post-installation checks
Section titled “Post-installation checks”-
Open the Logic Fabric Logic Composer app. In the Logic Fabric area you should see three groups: Logic (Logic Blocks, Logic Flows, Logic Recipes), Events (Event Definitions, Event Handlers, Events) and Settings (Projects, Configurations, Localized Resources, Service Connections, Schedules).
-
Go to Settings > Projects and select New. The Solution list offers the unmanaged solutions in the environment. Create a test project.
-
Create a logic block in that project, choose Formula, give it a simple formula and save it. If the save is refused with the Tools message above, install Logic Fabric Logic Composer Tools.
-
Select Run on the block, fill in its inputs and run it. A Succeeded banner confirms that logic runs in the environment.
-
If you installed Process Orchestrator, open a business process record and check that the Process Designer button is available.
-
If you installed Logic API, check that API Studio opens.
-
Delete the test artifacts and the test project when you are done.
Dynamics 365 CE on-premisesBackground processingApplies to the other edition
Built-in process escalations and other background work rely on the Dynamics 365 asynchronous processing service. Make sure it is running on your servers.
